Race To MVP

March 12 2008

1.Kobe Bryant

He still remains at the top of the MVP list. After losing that game against the Sacremento, my looks on Kobe has changed a little. Still, Lakers are on top of the Western Conference, even ahead of the Spurs and the Rockets. Kobe's averaging well, so I'll keep him here.

2.LeBron James

LeBron is playing well at the moment. He got his seventh triple double of the season yesterday in a 88-80 win. The top two players to have the most triple double in a season in the last 18 years is Jason Kidd 13(this season) and Grant Hill,13, more than a decade ago. It will not be long after LeBron catches Kobe.

3.Tracy McGrady

I decided to put him ahead of Chris Paul this week is because Houston is too ahead of New Orleans in the Western Conference. Other than that, T-Mac has won the Western Conference Player Of The Week, averaging 32.3 points, 7.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Also, he exploded for 41 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds last Sunday. Lastly, the Rockets are on a 19 game winning streak and 7 of them came without Yao's presence. It might just be too late for T-Mac to catch the top 2.

4.Chris Paul

If Chris Paul played like this in the seasons Steve Nash won, Chris Paul would've won. He's averaging fantastic stats for a point guard and he will definitely be in the top 5 this year. This week he loose out to T-Mac but I'm sure he will be 3rd again somehow.

5.Dwight Howard

Everyone has forgotten what a blockbuster season Dwight Howard is having. The way he is playing his basketball is still great. He is still one of the top rebounders and blockers and Orlando are playing well too. He is still the best big man today.

6.Tim Duncan

The San Antonio Spurs are the best team in the West at the moment. Tim is averaging very good too. After loosing to the Nuggets a few days ago, they came back by beating them again. Timmy, who erupted for 23 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in a win over the Nuggets on Monday. They won 11 in a row before it ended.

7.Deron Williams

This guy is rising quickly on my list. Since the All-Star break, D-Will has been the top point guard in the league. He has notched seven straight double-doubles and is currently the biggest reason for Utah's success.

8.Kevin Garne
tt

He was the 32nd player to score 20,000 points. Kevin Garnett will win the MVP if the MVP stands for "the best player from the best team of the season".

9.Steve Nash

The Suns have been struggling lately, but don't blame Nash who has 42 assists in the past three games. On Sunday, he torched the Spurs' Tony Parker for 19 points, 14 dimes and five rebounds.

10.Chris Bosh

Toronto are back! The team win-loose record is now above 50%. Infact, way above 50%. 34-28.
Chris Bosh is starting to play like last season which may lead him into the top 8. His average assist is higher than Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudemire too.

Running The Floor

Andre Iguodala

Led by Andre Iguodala, Philly has won 11 of its past 14 games to move within four games of .500 with a record of 29-33. Iguodala is the face of the franchise. He is averaging 19.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. The fourth-year forward burst on the scene when in this writer’s humble opinion he was robbed by the judges at the 2006 Slam Dunk Contest(Has Nate Robinson made his dunk yet?). As his statistics show, Iguodala, who is better suited to be a second option than a first, is more than just a high flyer. He is an above-average defender, uses his athleticism to run the floor and finish the break and rebounds well for his position.
